So the couch delivery was delayed ...

Today was not a good day. Our new couch was scheduled to come between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. so we ran our errands early and then settled in to wait. Around 1:30, Cole headed into his room with some applesauce and a juice pack to take his "little rest" as usual. Typically, he sits on his bed and listens to his Toy Story book on CD and then plays a bit in his room quietly. Well, he'd been in there about five minutes today when I heard a loud BANG and instant crying.

I ran to his door and there he was covered in blood. It was on his face, both hands and coming out of his mouth from an unknown source. Now, blood doesn't usually bother me - I tend to keep my cool. He broke his arm - I was okay. He had suspected appendicitis on Christmas day - I was okay. But this amount of blood sent me over the edge. I got him up on the high counter of our kitchen and started removing blood and investigating and determined it was his mouth that was bleeding. He actually cut completely through his lower lip with his teeth and bumped the upper teeth. I got ice on him, tried to keep him calm and called the pediatrician. They couldn't get us in right away (ummm, did I mention the blood?) and I knew if he needed stitches they would just send us to the ER anyway, so fortunately Rob called up an oral surgeon friend and we were able to get right in.

By the time we got there it was just oozing and he wasn't screaming and crying as much - until we tried to get a panoramic x-ray. He did calm down enough to let the Dr. check him out and he determined that no stitches were necessary and that none of his teeth were loose. He gave us antibiotics and suggested ibuprofen for the swelling. The poor guy has a fat lip and sounds funny when he talks.

After that ordeal, we headed straight over to Toys R Us and he got to pick out a new toy. He picked a foam sword that I knew would be confiscated quickly for either hitting the dog or knocking things over so he also got to pick a two-pack of new cars from Cars 2. Then we headed home for a soft dinner and lots of TLC from Mommy, Daddy and Mooma and GrandDaddy.
